Indoor Storage Yard
After re-painting our Master Bedroom the Comptroller of the RS&L asked that the storage yard be relocated, I was happy to oblige. The new storage yard is located along the wall in the garage. Not wanting to purchase track for the storage yard I devised the following idea. Shelves were installed along the wall with re-positional brackets, 1" x 12" x 10' Pine planks were installed the length of the garage (approx 18'). To keep the wheels in alignment 3/8" x 1-1/2" x 48" strips were spaced so that each 1" x 12" plank could serve as a two track sub yard. This worked out perfect the rolling stock can be loaded on one end and pushed back to install next piece of rolling stock, then the engines can be installed last since they don't roll well.
I used the same track spacing that is typically used for parallel mainline tracks. (5 1/2" center line) Beginner's Guide to Large Scale Model Railroading.
The boards I used are a bit thick 3/8", Aristo Craft couplers just clear, Kadee couplers would require thinner boards.
The top plank is at eye height. More planks can bee added and all planks can be moved up or down as needed.
Don't look at the mess I'm cleaning out the attic.
