Window details

The windows of the building are assembled in much the same way as the door, by pre-painting and installing the frame and continuing to build out from there.

First the outer framing made from 1/16 x 1/4 Balsa (same as used on door frame) is pre-painted and installed.

The bottom outer window sill is cut differently, so it will have a ledge on the outside

Next the bottom and top sill are painted and installed.

Next more 1/16 x 1/4 Balsa is cut to size and painted and glued around the outside of the window frame. The bottom piece below the window sill has been cut on the ends at an angle for a better look.

After the window framing is complete the window itself can be framed using 1/16 square Balsa. Because of the small size of the window pieces I glued them in place first and then painted them, this served two purposes, first the pieces are too small to hand paint while loose, and secondly painting them after installation allows the paint to fill and hide the gaps between the framing and the window. The only thing left is to cut some thin plastic from a sheet protector and glue it in place from the inside to act as the "glass".
