Piko Red River Station Tips

I purchased this station on eBay, and was surprised to see that it was red, and not the usual white with red trim. I prefer the red color because down here in Texas most of the older brick structures are red brick. I have made quite of few cosmetic changes to spruce up the look of this little station the following pictures will describe it best, enjoy.

The Piko #62228 Red River Station, above photo from the Piko website.

The station as it was first used on the RS&L after being renamed for the town of Waterloo TX.

The solid red brick needed some white mortar.

Testing the new mortar color.

One end after the application of the new mortar.

A view of the new and the old un-mortared building sides.

The "mortar" (Tempera Paint) used on the Waterloo Station. I spread it on, gave it 5 minuets to set ,and then wiped it off with a dry paper towel, when most of the excess was removed I used a damp paper towel to remove any left over haze.

After the "mortar" was done the window sills were painted with Floquil Reefer White.

The  Station doors in their original unpainted brown plastic also need painting.

The doors, now painted with Floquil Reefer Brown, get their window sills painted Reefer White also.

The Roof in its original form, grey plastic & brown plastic eves. the Chimney will get "mortar" also.

The Roof after a coat of Floquil Engine Black was sprayed on, the end caps and chimney will receive paint treatments as well. Then everything will be coated with Krylon Frosted Glass to protect and waterproof.

The eves of the station getting a coat of roof brown also.

The completed eves look more natural than the original light brown plastic color.

Look somewhat like old cracked concrete?

It's a piece of floor tile I picked up at Home Depot.

I think it looks pretty good?

Almost done.
