Here are some of the wonderful pocket watch pendants
I've made with Sue Thwaite, and some I designed myself.
The Fairy's "City" Home
I made this watch in the first class I took from Sue
Thwaite (LadyBug). My very first venture into tiny scales. I
didn't think I could do it...until Sue Thwaite cast her spell on me.
There's a kitty sleeping on the rug in front of the fireplace, the picture
over the fireplace is of sheep grazing in a verdant field on a beautiful
day. There's perfume bottles on the dresser upstairs, an exotic floral
arrangement made out of peacock face feathers (no peacock was mistreated
in the gathering of these feathers) and lots of other details. It
was a fun project and one of Sue's watch classes that she's still teaching
(teeny tiny resident isn't included in the class). Watch for it at
a show near you!
The Teddy Bear Picnic Watch
There's a waterfall on the left side with a deer off in the distance.
Its twilight....see the moon and star? Teddy is deciding between cherry
cake or watermelon. That's a tiny snail to the right of the bear...eager
to get into that watermelon himself! All the while, Baby Bear is swinging
with a raccoon watching from the tree. When the pocketwatch is in natural
light, you can see the twinkling fairies all in the tree and around the
waterfall. As you can see, Sue and I had WAAAAYYYY too much fun :) !!!
Dream house for a friend
I created this watch for a dear friend of mine for her
birthday.
Avast, Ye Land Lubbers! Its a Pirate
Watch!
The pirate ship! This watch was designed by Sue Thwaite for the
Small Scales NAME National last year. The theme was "Pirates
of the Cheasapeake". I made this while visiting Sue. Its
hard to see, but there's a yellow parrot on the pirate's shoulder, bottle
of rum at the ready. (reality check....the pirate hat is a regular hole
punch from black paper, dampened, shaped around a toothpick, then painted
silver on the tip. cool, huh.). Mate climbing the rigging, jolly roger flying
high!
Below decks is the treasure that has spilled whilst the Captain
was in his cups. Booze, gold dubloons, gems, jewelery...all tumbled about.
If you look closely behind the treasure chest, there's a rat peeking out!
What kind of a pirate ship would it be without rats?
The Fairy Grotto Watch
I was asked to design a watch for a birthday present
for an 11 year old girl who truly believes in fairies.
The fairy in the watch is one of Sue Thwaite's fairies,
available on her website.
The Fairy Bathroom Watch
This watch is of my own design. I saw a picture
in Southern Living magazine showing a tub draped like this one. Of
course, it demanded to be done in mini! The background was cut out
of a magazine (it used to be part of a picture of a rug). The draping
was done using gauze ribbon, gathered and stiffened. The fixtures
(toilet, tub and sink) are from the Kummerow's. Because they are
magical fairy fixtures, they have pink roses lavished on them. The
sconces on the wall are bits of jewelry findings with Sue's crunchie flower
mixture added. The tub is full of bubbles, ready for the fairy to
disrobe and crawl in for a relaxing "time out". Maybe I
should open the watch and remove the fairy's clothing.
After all, no one takes a bath with clothes on!
Strolling in the Flower Garden Watch
This doll was made by Jan Hughes. She's a porcelain
doll, fully jointed and dressed in silks. She's even wearing silk
panties! I've had her for several years, but she's hard to see in
a regular roombox and needed to be spotlighted. So, I put her in a
watch case along with flowers and ornate fencing (difficult to see).
There's even a bluebird on the fence (a seed transformed
by Sue Thwaite)
