MEDICINE MAN'S WAR PAINT KIT
Another offering of a medicine man's war paint
kit with all of the pieces
found in Bastrop County, Texas. The kit consists
of everything pictured here including the leather.The
paint pot
is a type of iron ore that contained a powder
that ranged from
purple to red to yellow depending on the other
minerals present
when nature formed it. The paint cup, used to
as a reservoir to apply
the paint, is stained from continued use. The
kit also contains a charm
or amulet that was drilled for wearing, sinew,
a sinew cutter, and a
combination spokeshave/drill. This kit includes
a medicinal mortar
and pestle found 2 feet apart on a hill top
overlooking the Colorado
River near Rocky Hill in Bastrop Co. The pestle
is typical of one
used with a medicinal mortar in that the end
with the single point
was used to grind the substance and the split
end was used like a level
to rub the medicine out of the bowl. The bones
are from a coyote found
after the buzzards picked it clean. Great Exhibit!
