Whom to vote for?

Elections are tomorrow in large parts of the country. Here in Texas we have to wait another month and a lot can change between now and then. But if I had to vote tomorrow I really have no idea whom I would select.

I mean, of all the wonderful people in this country, how do we get stuck picking between all these lacklusters?

The republicans tend to nominate boring people like Bob Dole. That's when they lose. They're about to do it again.

I have said repeatedly that I am a one issue voter now. Whoever convinces me that he will kill the most fanatical muslims will get my vote. That vote goes to a man with almost no other good characteristic, John McCain.

Why didn't Petraeus run for president? I have no idea, which is a good thing for a military officer, whether he is in one party or another, but he appears to be a good general.

McCain is a looney toon. I can never forgive him for outlawing political speech. The rest of his transgressions against the republican party, as numerous as they are, mean little to me individually but in the aggregate they point to a man of little character. He's a weasel. He's an opportunist that will sell out his party, not over principles, but solely because it maneuvers him into a position of brokering power. Every disagreement he's created through his being a "maverick" has been calculated to put him in the spotlight and make him appear to be the man that swings the votes in the Senate. This clearly succeeds. This is an example of how having good character, being a man of principle, actually works against a man in politics.

On the other side, the choice is also a stinker. I would vote for Satan himself before I would vote to put a Clinton back in the White House. Enough said about that woman.

But who is Obama? How can we elect a quasi-muslim when we are at war with most of Islam? He has no experience at anything. He didn't even pass the bar after graduating from law school, so he's never really had a job.

The really annoying thing about Obama is that his supporters have that smug, pouting, liberal attitude that makes me want to barf. For instance, there is a very clever and artfully made video making the rounds that makes it appear that Obama is singing in his speeches. Very well done. But what annoys me is the smug look of picked on superiority of the people supporting him in that video. The man, strangely named "will.i.am," who stands there pouting at the beginning personifies the attitude that will elect Obama. The attitude is that "we have no winning ideas, we have nothing to advance society and life, but we "feel" and pout and our petulance is sufficient to merit power.

Obama himself projects that vacant mindset with his campaign. And it's working. He's simply projecting optimism. Well, not "simply." In fact, his optimism is being projected from an assumption of cynical pessimism. That is, his campaign is saying, everything is horrible, life is tough, we're just barely able to live in a world of oppression and drudgery. But Obama will erase oppression. Obama will end drudgery. It's all very uplifting and will probably result in his being elected. Youth, vigor and a positive message will win over a cranky old bitch and over any of the boring people put forward by the other party.

But note that Obama's campaign is based on contradiciton. He is youth, harkening for the old days of John F. Kennedy, long before most of his voting base were born or their parents were born. He is optimism, pretending that our lives in this time of unparalleled freedom and prosperity are oppressive.

I guess I'll have to go with McCain for now. He may be looney toons, he may have designs against freedom for political speech. He may have no coherent philosophy whatsoever except self-advancement (much like the Clintons), but at least I can trust him to win this war on fanatical Islam.
