Defining Configuration Rules & Constraints

When Rules View is selected, a floating Parts palette appears. The floating palette contains a list of Parts that comprise the selected Product (or Product Class) Definition. The palette view is organized into a familiar hierarchical structure (or Tree), sorted according to the instances of the selected Product's (or Product Class') Parts in the Product Definition: Included, Required Choice, and Optional. In Rules View, when Products are selected in the Tree pane,

  • The Parts Palette displays details about that Product's instances of Parts that occur in the Product Definition
  • The Detail Product Rules pane displays the rules currently associated with that Product.

To access Rules view:

  1. In the titlebar of the Tree pane, select Products from the drop-down list button
    or

    elect All Products from the View menu.
  2. In the Tree pane, select the Product with which the Rule is associated. If the Product you're searching for is not visible, expand the Product Class to which it belongs by clicking on the "+" symbol that appears to the left of the Product Class icons.
  3. In the Detail Body pane's titlebar, select Rules View from the drop-down list button
    or
    Select Product Rules from the Detail View subsection of the View menu.

A View similar to the example shown below appears. Within this View various types of Rules are displayed for each Product.
