Defining Configuration Rules & Constraints

This is an example of how a change in a product line might affect a product configuration model. Would you need a Removes Rule? Would you need an Includes Rule? How about a Default Choice for Moto Lux?

As a result of the memo you received regarding the new year's options, you must ensure that the configuration model reflects the new automatic transmission options for the Sport and Lux products.

  • "Floor-Mount Shift Removes the Included Bench Seating," and
  • "Floor-Mount Shift Includes Bucket Seats."

We would need to ensure that:

  1. Automatic Transmission Class is selectable in the user interface, and that Sport/Lux models require a choice of floor or column-mounted shift.
  2. If Floor Shift is selected, then
  • Bucket Seats are added to the Product Definition's Optional Parts for Sport & Lux.
  • Automatic Transmission requires choice of Floor Shift or Column Shift on Sport or Lux models (Min/Max=1).
  • Floor Shift includes Bucket Seats
  • Floor Shift OR Bucket Seats removes Bench Seating

Dear Helen

Here's the update I promised on the new features and options available this year.
Interior Colors: Black, Tan, & Misty Gray
Exterior Colors: Polar White, Midnight Blue, Cherry Red, Forest Green.
Transmissions: Optional Manual 5-speed stick on Sport & Lux in place of the regular automatic transmission. N/A on Bon.
New floor shift automatic available Sport & Lux. N/A on Bon..
Both floor shifts require bucket seats on the Lux in place of standard bench. Bucket seats N/A on Bon.
Halogen Headlamps: Now optional on Bon (were n/a last year)

Oh... on the leather bucket seats - they're going to be available on the Sport and Lux. The samples we got from Milan on the 23rd will be the selections, (yum!) using the names we agreed on last week: Morrocco and Rawhide styles are available iwth Tan Interior only. Kidskin style is available for all interiors.
