Chapter 8
Defining Configuration Rules & Constraints

To create a new Rule, select the Rules Detail view associated with the Product or Product Class for which you wish to create the new Rule. Then:

1. Either:

  • Right-click anywhere within the Product Rule Detail pane to open the mouse menu, then select New.
    or
  • Select (left-click) New Product Rule from the Action menu.
    or
  • Enter the keyboard shortcuts ALT-N, ALT-R

    SC Config Manager prepares blank Rules fields in the Rule Detail Footer, ready to accept the Parts / Part Class objects that you will drag from the Parts Palette into the [LHS] and [RHS] of the new Rule.

2. Drag the Part or Part Class into the [LHS] of the Rule Detail Footer from the Parts Palette.

Note: You cannot write Rules about standard (included) parts, except when they are the target(s) (the [RHS]) of a Removes Rule. Therefore SC Config Manager will not allow you to drag parts from the Includes section of the Product Definition Window into the [LHS] of any Rule.
