Manual Dial up setup for Microsoft Windows ME


These images are only screenshots. Please use these images as an example of what you should see on your own computer.

  • Click on the Start Menu, choose Settings, then choose Dial-up Networking.

 

  • Double-click Make New Connection

 

  • In the Type a name for the computer you are dialing box, type Realtime.

  • Make sure the correct modem is select in the drop down list at the bottom

  • Click Next

 


 

  • In the Telephone number box, type your local dialup number (found here).

  • Click Next

 

  • At the final screen, click Finish

 

  • The new icon will appear in the Dial Up Networking window. Click it once to highlight it.

 


 

  • Click on the File menu

  • Choose Properties.

 

  • REMOVE the check next to Use country code and area code

  • Click the Server Types tab.

 

  • Click the TCP/IP Settings button in the lower right corner.

 

  • Put a dot next to Server assigned IP address.

  • Put a dot next to Specify name server addresses.

  • In the Primary DNS box, type 205.238.128.39

  • In the Secondary DNS box, type 205.238.128.42

  • Click the OK button a few times until you are back at the main Dial Up Networking window.

Creating A Shortcut:

  • To create a shortcut for this connection on your desktop, click on the File menu

  • Choose Create Shortcut.

  • You should see an "error" message asking if you want the shortcut placed on your desktop.
    Click Yes button.

  • You should now have the shortcut on the desktop.

  • Close the Dial Up Networking and My Computer windows.

  • Once you locate the new icon on your desktop, double-click it to connect.

Your computer is now setup to connect to the Internet!
