Setting up your Windows 95 computer
to connect to Realtime


These images are only screenshots. Please use these images as an example of what you should see on your own computer.

  • Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop.

  • Double-click Dial-Up Networking icon.

  • Double-click Make New Connection icon.

  • In the Type a name for the computer you are dialing box, type Realtime.

  • Make sure the correct modem is selected in the drop down list at the bottom.

  • Click the Next button.

  • In the Telephone number box, type your local dialup number (found here).

  • Click the Next button.

  • Click the Finish button.

  • The new icon will appear in the Dial Up Networking window.

  • Click it once to highlight it.

  • Click the File menu, then choose Properties.

  • REMOVE the check next to the Use country code and area code

  • Click the Server Types button. If you have a newer version of Windows 95, this may be a tab at the top of the window.

  • REMOVE the check next to IPX/SPX Compatable, and NetBEUI.

  • In the Allowed network protocols section, make sure the only protocols selected is TCP/IP

  • Click the TCP/IP Settings button in the lower right corner.

  • Put a dot next to Server assigned IP address.

  • Put a dot next to Specify name server addresses.

  • In the Primary DNS box, type 205.238.128.39

  • In the Secondary DNS box, type 205.238.128.42

  • Click the OK button a few times until you are back at the main Dial Up Networking window.

  • To create a shortcut for this connection on your desktop, click the File menu, then choose Create Shortcut.

  • You should see an "error" message asking if you want the shortcut placed on your desktop. Click the Yes button.

  • You should now have the shortcut on the desktop.
  • Close the Dial Up Networking and My Computer windows.

  • Once you locate the new icon on your desktop, double-click it.

  • Enter your Realtime.net email address into the username field.

  • Enter your password into the password field.

  • Click on the connect button

Your Windows 95 system should now be configured to dial into the internet!
