Using FreePPP
These images are only screenshots. Please use these images as an example of what you should see on your own computer.
- Click on Apple -> Control Panels -> FreePPP
- Click on the General tab.
- Put a check next to Allow applications to open connection.
- Put a check next to Allow alerts during connection.
- Click on the Accounts tab.
- Click the New button.
- Click on the Account tab in the new window.
- In the Server name box, type Realtime.
- In the Area code box, type your area code.
- In the Phone number box, type your local dialup number (found
here)
- UNCHECK the Dial area code and Dial as long distance
boxes.
- In the Connect drop down list, select Directly.
- In the User name box, type your realtime.net email address
- In the Password box, type your password.
- Click the OK button.
- Back at the main window, click on the Locations tab.
- Select your location (usually Home), then click the Edit button.
- Leave the Area code box blank. The other options you can ignore.
- Click the OK button.
- Back at the main window, click on the Modems tab.
- Select your modem (usually Generic Modem)
- Click the Edit button.
- In the Connect to drop down list, select Modem Port
. - In the Port Speed drop down list, select
- 38400 bps if you do NOT have a 56k modem
- 57600 bps if you DO have a 56k modem
- In the Flow Control drop down list, select CTS
only.
- In the Dial Type drop down list, select Tone.
- Put a check next to Speaker Enabled and Hangup on disconnect.
- Put a check next to Performa internal modem ONLY if you have a
Performa Internal Modem.
- In the Modem init string settings section, put a dot next to
Use.
- In the Use box, type AT&F1. ( This is a common initialization
string and will
work with most 28.8k and higher modems)
- Click the OK button.
- Close the FreePPP window completely
TCIP/IP
- Click on Apple Menu -> Control Panels -> TCP/IP
- In the Connect via drop down list, select FreePPP.
- In the Configure drop down list, select Using PPP Server.
- In the Name server addr box, type 206.66.10.94
- On the next line, type 206.138.224.150
- In the Search domains box, type realtime.net.
- Close this window.
MacTCP
- Click on Apple Menu -> Control Panels -> MacTCP
- Highlight the PPP icon
- Click the More button (the icon might be called FreePPP or Config PPP)
- In the Obtain Address section, put a dot next to Server.
- In the Gateway Address box, type 0.0.0.0
- In the IP Address section, select Class C.
- In the first two Domain boxes, type realtime.net.
- In the first IP Address box, type 205.238.128.39
- In the second IP Address box, type 205.238.128.42
- Click the OK button
- Close the MacTCP window.
