Famous, Not So Famous, And Just Great Quotes

O.K.  I couldn't resist!  I've officially opened the quotes page.

So here's the deal.

If you have a quote that you want on the page, shoot me a line.  Make sure in your message that it's clean, if it's already published, give credit to whom it belongs so that way I can do the same, and also keep it clean if possible.  Quotes will be read by me, and if the submission meets the simple criteria, then I will place the latest at the top of the submissions list.  So you get the newest first and the oldest last.  If you don't want me to give you credit for submitting the quote, then tell me and I'll make sure your name doesn't appear.

Have fun reading and come back often!!  This is going to be interesting, people.

Eleanor Roosevelt wrote: FRIENDSHIP "Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart. To handle yourself, use your head; To handle others, use your heart. Anger is only one letter short of danger. If someone betrays you once, it is his fault; If he betrays you twice, it is your fault. Great minds discuss ideas; Average minds discuss events; Small minds discuss people. He who loses money, loses much; He, who loses a friend, loses much more; He, who loses faith, loses all. Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art. Learn from the mistakes of others. You can't live long enough to make them all yourself."

"IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER" by Erma Bombeck:

"I would have talked less and listened more. I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained and the sofa faded. I would have eaten the popcorn in the 'GOOD' living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace. I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth. I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed. I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage. I would have sat on the lawn with my children and not worried about grass stains. I would have cried and laughed less while watching television and more while watching life. I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day. I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show soil or was guaranteed to last a lifetime. Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment realizing that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle. When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, 'Later. Now go get washed up for dinner.' There would have been more 'I love yous' ... more 'I'm sorrys' .....but mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute.....look at it and really see it ... live it ... and never give it back." In honor of Erma Bombeck who lost her fight with cancer.

"The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they cant find them make them." - George Bernard Shaw

Here is a special quote that I love from Robert Fripp's Diary, Sunday 31st. October, 1999; 17.43:

"Scepticism is a virtue, but risks becoming cynicism. Cynicism is a vice. Faith is a virtue, but risks becoming belief. This is a weakness. May we hold scepticism close; May faith hold us closer. But let us not belittle the beliefs of others, For although beliefs are legion they may lead to faith, And faith is one."

This is a student of mine, Cecily, who replied with this addition. "beyond faith there is Knowing. And when one is not yet in a place of Knowing, because one is in a place that is new, there is faith."

"It is understandable that a child may fear the darkness; less so that an adult would fear the light." - Plato.

Mike Portnoy, the drummer for the band Dream Theater wrote these lyrics in their album "Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From A Memory".  He said, "without love, without truth, there can be no turning back.  Without faith, without hope, there can be no peace of mind."

"Life is too short to let the little things get to you. A teacher once told each of her students to bring a clear plastic bag and a sack of potatoes to school. For every person they'd refused to forgive in their life's experience, they chose a potato, wrote on it the name and date, and put it in the plastic bag. Some of their bags were quite heavy. They were then told to carry this bag with them everywhere for one week, putting it beside their bed at night; on the car seat when driving; next to their desk at work ..... The hassle of lugging this around with them made it clear what a weight they were carrying spiritually, and how they had to pay attention to it all the time to not forget and keep leaving it in embarrassing places. Naturally, the condition of the potatoes deteriorated to a nasty slime. This was a great metaphor for the price we pay for keeping our pain and heavy negativity! Too often we think of forgiveness as a gift to the other person, and it clearly is for ourselves!!" -Author Unknown
