This is my Father's World

Friday 21 August 1998 my Father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Surgery was to be scheduled ASAP. I spent Saturday driving up to Kansas City.

On Monday Mother, Father, my three brothers and I met with the surgeon. Father's chances were good and we each took turns questioning the Doctor. The operation was scheduled for Wednesday morning.

That night the drive back to Texas seemed longer than normal. Wednesday night around 9:00 I got the call, he had made it through surgery and no cancer was found. The pancreas had calcified and a section needed to be removed.

On Thursday morning my brother David visited Father and gave him the good news. Later this poem was found on the board by his room.

Forget not the power of faith and prayer and that God is with us everywhere. For here, in my Father, lives a man Blessed by the touch of God's own hand.
